Navigation day – Optional
Delivered from the School and as close to the date of the Practice expedition as possible.
In order to ensure the teams can navigate and have the best possible training to look after themselves and each other safely we strongly recommend this extra day. The benefits are that OG and school staff will have greater confidence in the team’s ability to be self sufficient during the Practice expedition. It will also enable our staff to be more distant and supervise the teams remotely whilst encouraging the teams to really trust their own skills, promoting greater self confidence and pride in their achievement.
This full day of navigation training in school grounds and the local area will be designed to fit around the school timetable. Our instructors will teach the participants:
Orientating the map
Scale
Understanding map symbols
Relating the map to the ground
How to take a bearing
This will be covered with 1 Instructor to 10 participants.
